Good Vibes from "Green" Hypnosis

Last night I had the pleasure and honor of entertaining guests at GreenWheaton’s anniversary gala at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD.

This is a wonderful organization comprised primarily of volunteers who educate and help businesses and residents in the Wheaton community adopt environmentally sustainable and friendly practices.  There were a number of like-minded groups who were part of the event, working on similar initiatives in communities such as Annapolis, Bethesda, Poolesville and Silver Spring.

How did the hypnosis go?

It was a success and very much in line with expectations.  Rather than a stage show, I worked the room and engaged small groups of guests in a discussion about the health and wellness benefits of positive visualization.  My message was right in step with the philosophy of being green.

I took those who were interested through a simple hypnotic induction, focusing on themes of stress management, confidence and positive feelings.

It was loud with music and chatter, so no one really achieved a deep level of hypnosis.  Yet, I did receive many compliments from guests and the event organizer – Wendy Howard of WH Consulting – gave me the “thumbs up” on my participation at the event.

Vendors displayed their "green friendly" products.

French Firefighters Employ Hypnosis to Soothe Victims

When emergency personnel and firefighters arrive on the scene they have to make a quick assessment of the threat situation.  Often, they are confronted by an injured individual or hysterical bystander who adds tension and stress to an already confusing environment.

Can hypnosis help a first responder soothe the distraught person?   And once the person is in a calmer state, can medical services be provided more easily and successfully?

The French believe so.  In an innovative and groundbreaking program, 120 firefighters have been trained in hypnosis which they can use to soothe someone in physical or emotional distress.  The program’s concept is to arm first responders with a tool that complements traditional first aid assistance.

Initial feedback on the program is positive with a 100 percent success rate in calming victims and helping them believe the time the rescue worker took to help them seemed shorter than it actually was.  After further analysis, the French may introduce the program more broadly.

Going Green with Hypnosis

I have the privilege and honor to perform “Hypnotic Experience” to support organizations that provide a meaningful service to the community.

Last month, I was part of the entertainment line-up at Nourish Now’s annual fundraiser.  On June 30, I’m hosting an evening of comedy and music in partnership with Sofire Music to benefit the Operation Renewed Hope Foundation.

And I’ve been invited back to perform at the Bradley Farm Haunted House festival in October.  This event benefits Herndon-Reston FISH, a charitable group in Northern Virginia.

Now, I am thrilled to share with you that I’ll be part of an event to raise money for GreenWheaton, a non-profit that provides education and outreach that promotes Wheaton, Maryland as a model sustainable community with a green and healthy environmental footprint.

On Thursday evening June 27th at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, the organization will host its anniversary gala for friends, supporters, residents, local business owners and county representatives.  The event will feature an electric car show, door prizes, and local beer, wine and food.

Money raised from the event will be put to good work, funding educational events for the Wheaton community on the importance of living and working green.

I’ll be at the event to engage small groups of guests to demonstrate the power of positive visualization in a fun and entertaining fashion.  My focus on health, wellness, stress management and life achievement is right in step with the philosophy of GreenWheaton.

So…please join me on June 27th at Brookside Gardens to recognize this wonderful group.  Tickets are $30 and can be purchased online at this link.

GreenWheaton's annual gala is on June 27th at Brookside Gardens.

Music, Comedy and the Hypnotic Experience – All for a Wonderful Cause

Earlier this year I had the good fortune to connect with the Operation Renewed Hope Foundation (ORHF), a charitable organization that provides financial and support services to homeless veterans.

In addition to the important work the group does to help people who have served our country, ORHF also supports local musicians, comedians and entertainers by including them at fundraisers and special events that raise awareness about the issue of veteran homelessness.  This past April ORHF hosted a well received performance of Hypnotic Experience at the Crystal City Sports Pub.

You can read my recap of the performance and see a wonderful set of photos at this link.

It’s with great excitement that I announce a new collaboration with ORHF to help the group further its mission.  On Sunday evening, June 30 at the Splash Lounge in Rockville, MD, I will host a night of music, comedy and hypnotic fun to honor this wonderful organization.

I encourage you to be part of this event as my guest.  For a $10 ticket which you can purchase online at this link or at the door, you’ll get dinner provided by Splash Lounge; musical entertainment from several up and coming performers in the area; and a mix of comedy, improv and a demonstration of the power of positive visualization.

Please invite your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.  Come as a group.  It will be a fun evening and it recognizes an important cause.

I’d also like to recognize a set of other organizations that have come together to help make this evening possible:

Sofire Music: this is a Washington, DC based entertainment powerhouse.  They’re providing the musical entertainment, handling DJ duties and helping with promotion.

DC Global Adventurers:  it’s one of the area’s top social meet-up groups and an organization that has hosted me for several performances.  They promoted this event to their members and 24 people have already signed up to attend.

Dr. Adam Schwartz and Brandywine Dental Care:  yes…Adam is my dentist.  He’s a friend and former neighbor.   He has encouraged a group of his staff to attend the event together as a social outing.

Deborah Snyder, Kim Young and Jennifer Lopez from ORHF:  they will be at the event to share information about the organization and its mission.  Each is a true hero who serves our country and others with honor and dignity.  If you attend, you’ll have a chance to say “hi.”

In April, my performance of Hypnotic Experience was a hit with ORHF members and guests.

Hypnosis for Past Life Regression: Any Truth to It?

This past weekend I had the privilege of being part of the entertainment line-up at Nourish Now’s annual fundraiser, themed a “Night in Vegas.”

This charitable group collects fresh food from restaurants in the Washington, DC region and distributes it to facilities that shelter and care for the homeless.

At the event, I met a young woman who has an interest in the use of hypnosis for past life regression.  She claimed to have helped a group of her friends relive experiences from a prior existence.

Although I am aware of this application of hypnosis, I have yet to formally study or train in this area, so it’s not a part of my “Hypnotic Experience” show or teaching of self-hypnosis.  The woman I met over the weekend also lacked any training, so I declined her invitation to walk me through the process.

An Internet search reveals a lot of interest in the topic of past life regression and even a profile segment on the Oprah Show.

I’d like to learn more and welcome any insight, experiences or anecdotes you can share.  Please message me via a comment on this blog or at m.russell.hausman@gmail.com.

------------------UPDATE-------------------

I am a member of an online community of hypnotists called Hypnothoughts.  I created a discussion about this topic and would like to share interesting comments I received in response.  I've removed the names of the respondents out of respect for their privacy.

My faith teaches reincarnation, and I have experienced PLR, spontaneously and in formal hypnotic settings.

That said, I haven't found sufficient evidence to convince me that a past life regression is anything more than a story the unconscious makes up to tell the conscious mind. Now, it might be a very important or useful story that may lead to healing. If treated as gospel truth, it could be a very harmful story that destroys relationships or makes one act like an idiot.

What's sad to me is that half the time I find people who are open to hypnosis, they assume that I'm into PLR . . . There is so much that hypnosis can do that gets left by the wayside.

-------------------
I have done this with my daughter, she not only recalled past lives but she actually took on the mannerisms of the people she claimed to be, the only reason is that we were both interested.

I have also had clients that say the issue comes from past life (during time line therapy and regression to cause). I don't know if it is true or not or just the mind being symbolic.

I also regressed a client to past the point of birth without prior warning to the client "this was a natural progression of the therapy we were doing" there was no past lives but there was a place with people.

I have had clients report that the issue comes from past life and report they do not believe in past lives. I have seen a report somewhere that claims that several people who thought they were, lets say Winston Churchill reported to be him. It does not matter to me if it is true or not, what I do know is it can be a useful tool especially if the client believes.

Nourish Now's "A Night in Vegas" Fundraiser

The practice of hypnosis for health, wellness, stress management, career or academic accomplishment, and athletic achievement is a personal passion.

Performing my Hypnotic Experience show at community festivals, street fairs, fundraisers, school events and private parties is just plain fun.

As an entertainer, you quickly learn the need for some type of differentiation for your show.  Regardless of whether you are in comedy, music, dance or performance art, you need to uncover the thing that appeals to a broad audience and makes your act special and unique.

When concepting Hypnotic Experience I knew I did not want to be just another comedy stage hypnotist.  There’s nothing wrong with those shows, yet they all tend to be similar.

So what’s my thing?  In Hypnotic Experience I combine stand-up comedy and a dash of improv with a demonstration of the power of positive visualization to unlock creativity and promote wellness.

The show consistently receives rave reviews from event organizers and attendees, helping me book four or five performances a month.

Plus, I’m fortunate to have a wonderful full-time career as a social media marketing consultant.  This allows me to donate my time to perform Hypnotic Experience at no cost for charitable groups, non-profits and community organizations.

It’s fun and rewarding!

Tomorrow evening (Saturday, June 1) I’m fortunate to be part of a line-up of entertainers at Nourish Now’s “A Night in Vegas” annual fundraiser to be held at the Progress Club in Rockville, Maryland.

Created in May 2011 by business executive Brett Meyers, Nourish Now collects surplus food from restaurants in the Washington, DC area and delivers it to organizations that provide assistance to the homeless.  It’s a worthy cause and comparable to the Operation Renewed Hope Foundation, a non-profit I’ve performed for because of their support of homeless veterans.

Rather than a traditional stage show performance, I’ll be working the crowd at the Nourish Now event engaging small groups of guests with a bit of humor and, if interested, a fun demonstration of hypnosis.

I encourage you to join me tomorrow in Rockville for what will be a wonderful evening of food, fun and entertainment.  You can purchase tickets here
