In Hypnosis Is There Really a "Sunken Place?"

In November I had the opportunity to speak about and demonstrate hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness to psychology students at Richard Montgomery High School, Sandy Spring Friends School, Clarksburg High School, Sherwood High School, Northwest High School, Our Lady of Good Counsel High School, and Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.  It was an awesome experience as I had more than 250 students volunteer to try hypnosis.

During my introductory remarks I mention the misconceptions created about hypnosis in movies and television.  One of the films I cite is the 2017 film Get Out, written and directed by Jordan Peele.

While the hypnotic induction is compelling and realistic, the ability to compel someone to act against their beliefs (i.e. The Sunken Place) is not.  Here is a link to a blog post I published in March 2017 that explores the use of hypnosis as a critical dramatic element in the film:

I’ve included below a video of Get Out’s hypnosis, along with the actual script from the movie.  Take a few minutes to watch the video.  Do you think hypnosis could ever take a person to the Sunken Place?

New Hypnosis Videos from My Visit to Clarksburg High School

There are two things I can count on when visiting Clarksburg High School to speak with psychology students about hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness: 1) a wonderful and warm reception from the kids; and 2) great video from the psych teachers.

These videos were captured today.  They depict a shock hypnosis induction and reinduction, which both are somewhat dramatic.  The goal of my talk is to help make the psychology curriculum come alive and that require a bit of flair.

See My Hypnotic Experience Show on November 9

Each year I donate my time to perform at after prom and all-nightgraduation parties hosted by the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at high schools in the Washington, DC area.  For me, it is rewarding to help provide students with a fun (and safe) environment.

One of my most favorite schools is Sandy Spring Friends School in Maryland.  For the past four years I have been part of the entertainment at the school’s after prom and now – for the first time – I’ll perform at the schools’ FriendsFest.

The event (and my shows) are free to attend.  I’ve included below information about Hypnotic Experience, which has a health and wellness theme.

Can we achieve a higher level of wellness, creativity and success through the power of our own mind?

Hypnotist and comedian Marc Hausman believes so.  This fun, entertaining and family friendly 45 minute show is all about the power of positive visualization.

Marc is a Washington, DC based entertainer who performs at community festivals, high schools, colleges and charitable fundraisers.  He has performed at the Arlington County Fair, Georgetown University's Welcome Week for Students, the Marine Corp. Marathon Pep Rally, Burke Centre Community Festival, Northern Virginia Community College, Montgomery College, and more than two dozen high schools in the Washington, DC area.

Come enjoy my Hypnotic Experience show at FriendsFest at Sandy Spring Friends School.
