Burke Centre Festival is Sept. 8/9 and It's Awesome

After the performance intensity of high school after proms and all night graduation parties, I scale back on my entertainment schedule during the summer.  This affords me an opportunity to refresh, as well as develop new content for the Hypnotic Experience show.

I make two BIG exceptions: 1) Arlington County Fair in August; and 2) Burke Centre Festival which is scheduled for September 8/9 in Burke, Virginia.  Both events are community oriented and include a wonderful collection of locally-based entertainment – all of which is free for guests.  It’s a privilege for me to support these events.

I’ve included below links to articles I have authored about the Burke Centre Festival during the past five years.  I invite you to the Festival and encourage you to check out the Hypnotic Experience.   I’ll perform a series of mini-shows each day.

Get Hypnotized at the Burke Centre Festival in September

Family fun, games, rides and entertainment come together at the Burke Centre Festival on Sept. 9/10.

A community is more than merely a collection of families who happen to be geographically connected.  Rather, it is the social interaction, shared experiences and support that truly makes a neighborhood thrive.

During the weekend of September 9/10, I have the privilege of being part of the entertainment at the Burke Centre Festival in Burke, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC.  I’ll be on-site to perform both days of the event to perform a series of mini-shows of my Hypnotic Experience.

Organized by the Burke Centre Conservancy for the past 40 years, this event attracts more than 10,000 attendees for games, rides, art and crafts, food and entertainment.  A wonderful collection of local organizations and performers will take the stage.

I know Burke well as this is my fifth year in a row being part of the Festival.  Plus, I performed in June at the Lake BraddockSecondary School’s All Night Graduation Party.  This is the local high school.

I encourage you to make the drive to Northern Virginia to enjoy this event.  Burke is an exceptional community!

Perfect Day at Burke Centre Festival

A musical puppet show is a hit with younger guests at the Burke Centre Festival.

This past Sunday was one of those perfect weather days in the Washington, DC area.  Lots of sunshine, a temperature in the mid-70s, low humidity and a pleasant breeze.

It created an ideal setting for my “Hypnotic Experience” show at the Burke Centre Festival, a must-attend community event in Northern Virginia.

This was my third year on-site as part of the entertainment line-up.  The professional staff at the Burke Centre Conservancy (the event organizer) is a pleasure to work with and I always attract lots of volunteers who are open to giving hypnosis a try.

In five hours on-site, I had more than 75 people experience a simple hypnotic induction.  It was a wonderful mix of younger kids, teens and tweens, and adults.

Included below is a nice note I received from my contact at the Burke Centre Conservancy, as well as links to the articles I have written the past two years about the event.

I look forward to seeing my Burke friends again in early September 2016!

“Many thanks for joining us again this year (at the Burke Centre Festival). We sincerely appreciate your time and interest in this worthwhile community outreach effort.”

Jeannie Winslow, Director of Administration

I had the pleasure and privilege to be part of the 37th annual Burke Centre Festival in Northern Virginia.  This was my second year performing at the event, which attracts thousands of attendees for rides, games and entertainment.  Here are a couple of observations from yesterday’s festival…

On Saturday evening I was one of the entertainers at the festival's Wine Garden, a relaxed gathering that featured tastings, light snacks and performances from local musicians.  It was a family friendly environment, yet attended mostly by adults.

Main stage at the festival hosts performances by local groups.

It's Been a Hypnotic Summer

Hypnotized at the after prom!
Tomorrow morning my wife and I put our now sixth grader on the bus for his first day of middle school. Thirty minutes later our 9-year-old will board as well heading for fourth grade.

Wow…the summer went by lightning fast.

It has been an incredibly fun and rewarding 3-1/2 months for my Hypnotic Experience show.  I kicked the summer off by entertaining at nine high school after prom and graduation parties, and then wrapped things up earlier this month with a headline performance at the Arlington County Fair.

I also struck up a relationship with Peterson’s Ice Cream Depot, a charming, community-centric and family-owned business in Clifton, Virginia.  I appeared on-site to entertain their customers five times during the summer.

My blog continued to grow in readership with my three best read articles of all time published this month.  Each has attracted more than 1,000 readers.  I’ve included links below.

Stay tuned for announcements of upcoming shows and appearances.  I’ll be on-site at the Burke Centre Festival in Northern Virginia in mid-September and will have specifics of dates and times in the coming days.

Wonderful Night at the Arlington County Fair

Without volunteers there is no hypnosis show.  Great audience at last night's Hypnotic Experience show.

A measure of event organizer satisfaction and audience appreciation is how often I have the opportunity to return to a venue to perform.

Thankfully, I have struck up a relationship with the folks at the Arlington County Fair which allowed me to be part of the entertainment on the indoor stage for two years running.

"I'm a Hypnotist" shirt.
My "Hypnotic Experience" show last night was tremendous fun.  It was well attended and featured an amazing group of volunteers.

The photos included in this post were taken by my friend Lauren Klumpp, who was kind enough to swing by the fair to check out my show.

The organizers of the Arlington County Fair put together a well run event with food, entertainment and amusement options.  I'll be back at the Fair today with my wife and three sons to simply enjoy the event as guests and catch a running of the racing piglets.

It is then vacation time with the family before returning to the stage on Saturday, August 29 at 6:30 PM Peterson's Ice Cream Depot in historic, Clifton, VA.  I will also be part of the Burke Centre Festival in Burke, VA on September 12 and 13.  It's my third year in a row supporting the good folks at Burke Centre!

UPDATE: Kind words from a woman who enjoyed my "Hypnotic Experience" show at the Fair:

"My son and I watched your show yesterday and just loved it! I even raved about your show to my mom in India and she can't wait to see you when she visits me. Just wrote to Ms. Amy Doane, the chairperson of the fair and mentioned how great your show was."  Anita Panwar

Community Festival Fun

Arlington County Fair features rides, games and entertainment.  (Source:  Washington Post)

My performance calendar flows in phases.

December is about holiday parties along with a New Year’s Eve show hosted by Professionals in the City at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.  April through June finds me at high school after prom and all night graduation parties.

Late summer and fall is for community fairs and street festivals, and I have three wonderful events already on the schedule.

Frying Pan Park in Herndon, Virginia
July 30 – August 2

I’ll be on stage for an hour long show on Saturday, August 1 at 5 PM and Sunday, August 2 at 12 PM.  This is my first appearance at this event, yet it looks to be an amazing time with rides, events and entertainment for the entire family.

Thomas Jefferson County Center in Arlington, Virginia
August 5 – August 9

This is my second year performing at this event and it’s an absolute winner.  There are carnival rides and games, as well as sports related entertainment from the Harlem Wizards.  Perhaps most popular is the “Racing Piglets” show, which is something you will definitely want to check out.

Burke Centre Conservancy in Burke, Virginia
September 12 and 13

I will be part of this wonderful community event for a third year in a row this coming September.  In addition to games, rides, entertainment and presentations from locally-based organizations, Burke Centre also hosts a popular wine tasting.
